Avant-garde needlework

A frog looks like something that was formed by a committee. But after drawing my first frog, I found I fell in love with it. This is the creative process for me. I take a walk at Edelen Acres, and something in nature strikes my fancy. “Can I create that in needlework?” I think to myself. My stomach gets full of butterflies, but I decide to give it a try. As it relates to this frog design, I had seen exotic African frogs, I believe, and I wanted to use a bright fluorescent green color.

“I am not sure I can do this,” I always fuss today at the start of each new project. He just smiles knowingly. Once the template is complete, I need to select and order the thread colors. The initial template on denim looks lifeless and flat, but in time, my frog begins to shape. “This has become my new favorite,” I exclaim once I am nearing the end.

Nature at Edelen Acres constantly reminds me that I am God’s handiwork, not my own. You are only seeing a work-in-progress. God sees the beginning, the work-in-process, and the finished work of art.
