Our Struggle

Jeff Bezos said it best, “One of the only ways to get out of a tight box is to invent your way out.”

Sometimes in life, you know what you don’t want, but you don’t see what you do.  My father was a self-taught artist of wood burnings. We had his wood burnings all over our house. I love color. I remember walking around thinking, “No”.  But I didn’t want to tell him, because I was afraid it would hurt his feelings.

About a year or so ago, I started doing embroidery kits, but I didn’t like them. So, I invented my own stitches and started creating my own “needlework” instead.  I began with drawings I created during COVID. Working on my needlework brings me joy. I love everything about the process. I love the design stage, when I get an idea like my “Sycamore with walnuts” design.

a. Design.  This was part of my drawing a day process during COVID. I designed the picture myself and drew it using Charcoal and Conte.

b. The Mock-up stage. This is stage two. This is where I make modifications to the design and determine which floss colors will work best with the denim background.

c. Denim.  I work on my denim needlework on the couch with my husband.  I have little decisions all along the process, but I don’t alter the overall design.

Through my needlework, I experience God’s love for me. I am God’s design. King Jesus is the template that God is forming inside of me. Planet Earth is just the mock-up stage. We are designed for eternity.
